SOL March 9th Here’s Why

Here’s why I’m still sitting at my desk at 3:37pm on a Tuesday:

  • Everyone is gone.
  • It is quiet.
  • I miss quiet.
  • I am savoring this quiet.
  • I am sitting and not anxious to get up and run again.
  • No one is looking for me, asking me for anything, or otherwise presenting any demands on my time or energy.
  • I am sitting here because I can.
  • I have time to write today’s slice.
  • I can take the time to comment on a few slices of others.
  • I am tired.
  • I am tired.
  • I’m still tired.
  • I feel better.
  • I’m taking some deep breaths.
  • I needed this.
  • It’s 3:43 and it feels like I’ve been on vacation.
  • Ok, just kidding!
  • That was kind of fun.
  • I like sitting here.
  • The world as we know it has not dissolved before my very eyes while I’ve done nothing besides sit.
  • That might be a revelation.
  • And now someone found me and needed to chat.

I guess I’ll go home now and face the music.

  1. I’m glad you were able to escape the world’s demands for at least a few minutes. I’m definitely looking for more minutes of solitude (strange desire during the time of lockdowns and quarantines, I know).

I like the list you used to share your thoughts in this post.

  2. The line “…it feels like I’ve been on vacation,” and your quick disclaimer made me smile. A few moments to breathe can be worth it. You have had a lot on your plate recently. Moving alone is a HUGE energy vampire.

  3. Love this revelation…the world will survive without our constant activity. I savored this quiet moment for you- I often sit in my car for an extra quiet minute before heading in to “face the music.”

  4. “The world as we know it has not dissolved before my very eyes while I’ve done nothing besides sit.” THIS. All of THIS. This is what I needed to hear today. Thank you. =)

  5. YES!! There are times that I find myself sitting at my desk for half an hour, not doing anything in particular, but being able to think during the silence, without emails waiting for a response or papers to be graded or texts waiting to be read. SILENCE IS GOLDEN especially after a long day!
