SOL March 16th A Nap To End All Naps

I had a nap

I took a nap

Sherri’s nap

My nap

The nap I had

That nap I took

It was a nap

I was taken by a nap

The nap held me

I embraced the nap

It welcomed me, the nap

I became one with the nap

A nap was had

I napped

Nabbed by a nap

Did I tell you about my nap?

Girl, it was deep!

I mean, I was OUT!

I had just read the last three sentences of Dr. Kendi

There, in the sun, on that dusty old beanbag

I stretched out, stretched back

and fell into

the sweetest of afternoon slumbers

A nap to end all naps

Cat-like abandon dedicated

to release I didn’t believe was possible.

Girl, it was A NAP!

  1. Beautiful poem! I am so jealous of this nap. I have young kids, so napping is no longer a part of my life. My husband and I used to come home from church every Sunday and NAP. No longer. (Well, he somehow still manages to still get one!)

  2. You know that strange feeling when you drift off right in the middle of a sentence and your napdream is filled with the odd wandering of a half-filled thought that wasn’t your own but the writer you were reading … that’s a strange feeling, ain’t it? Glad you got your nap in. Could use one myself.

  3. I love the way you use rhythm and repetition throughout your poem. And… “Cat-like abandon dedicated / to release I didn’t believe was possible…?”

    My favorite two lines. =))
