Tuesday SOL ’18 News of the Day

Gaza is mourning while

The President’s cabinet prepares for Christ’s second coming.

Ramadan has begun

and minors crossing the border

will be placed in military warehouses after

they’ve been separated from their parents.

Net Neutrality has a chance of being saved

but donor dollars and corporate greed still

get more love from Congress.

How do we acknowledge

the realities we know to be grim

and partly of our making

in one way

or another

while dancing like on Fortnite

and wishing our babies sweet dreams?

Misery loves company

but what if misery is the company

that doubles its profit margin

quarter after quarter?

Hindsight is 20/20 vision but

what what if rather than hindsight

there is no vision at all

only blind rage and fear

enough to set us all afire.

So much is not news;

but history on the rebound,

vengeful and merciless.

Because

we were too busy to pick up

and listen.

    1. Thanks for commenting, Trina. To your point, pay attention, yes, and unfortunately, make hard choices about how best to invest our energies to counter the destructive while making space and time for joy and celebration.

Heavy yes, but thoughtful. Echoes of Yeats’ The Second Coming. I hope that if others have lived through terrible times, perhaps we will make it, too.
